Angra do Heroísmo, generally known asAngra,is a municipality and city on the island ofTerceirain the Portuguese autonomous regionof theAzores. Itserved as a place of exile forAlmeida Garrettduring theNapoleonic Wars. It also served as a refuge for QueenMaria II of Portugalfrom 1830 to 1833. It was classified as aWorld Heritage sitebyUNESCOin 1983.
