TheCity of Londonis the historic heart ofLondon. This area was already a bustling trading post almost 2000 years ago, when it was part of the Roman Empire. The City is now only a tiny part of themetropolis of London, though it remains a notable part ofcentral London. It is one of two districts of London to hold city status; the other is the adjacentCity of Westminster.

Today the City is a mostly commercial district dominated by the stately buildings and skyscrapers that house offices for the finance industry. Throughout the 19th century, the City was the world's primary business centre, and it continues to be a major meeting point for businesses. There are however plenty historical landmarks that were built in an era when the City was still densely populated. The star here is the majesticSt. Paul's Cathedral, but there are also noteworthy civil structures such as theGuildhalland theLeadenhall Market. And theMuseum of London, which is appropriately located in the oldest part of London, documents the tumultuous history of the city.
